Plants cannot move. The reason behind their survival to minor pests’ attacks is that each of their vital functions is carried out by multiple distributed copies of the same organ. If a pest eats one leaf, the plant can count on many others for the gas exchange and photosynthesis. Redundancy is the secret of plants’ resilience.

Seeds, unlike  mature plants, are not redundant systems: each part is unique and vital, and even a small damage or deficiency can impair their ability to germinate.

That it is why it is necessary to protect them from the attack of soil borne diseases and pests. Applying protection and nutrition products directly onto the seed, it is a sustainable way to ensure the germination of planted seeds. Besides this technique grants the survival of the plant in the part of its life cycle right after emergence, when redundancy of its vital organs is minimal.

Plant protection and nutrition products are generally applied to the seed in the form of solid active ingredients suspended in water. However, once dried, the solid particles of active ingredient (milled to a size in the range of microns) can be easily removed by mechanical movimentation of the seeds, as it happens during sowing. To avoid the emission of dangerous clouds of dust during the mechanical sowing operations, we have developed a coating polymer, formulated in a way that improves the machinability of the seeds, reducing the frequency of skipped sites and of two seeds dropped in the same site.
